Anna Viebrock

Anna Viebrock studied stage design with Karl Kneidl at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Her collaborations with Christoph Marthaler and the directing team of Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito have taken her to numerous international theatres and opera houses including Theater Basel, the Volksbühne Berlin, the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, Frankfurt Opera, de Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Opéra de Paris, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Salzburg and Bayreuth Festivals, the Wiener Festwochen, the Avignon Festival and Schauspielhaus Zürich, where she was a member of the leading team until the summer of 2004. Since 2002 Anna Viebrock has also worked as a director, for example at the Opéra Bastille in Paris, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Theater Basel and Schauspiel Köln. She has won awards as Stage Designer of the Year and Costume Designer of the Year a total of seventeen times. Exhibitions of her stage design models have been presented across Europe. The state of Hesse awarded her the Hessian Prize for Culture in 1997, she was the winner of the Berlin Theatre Prize in 2004 and in 2013 she was awarded the Hein Heckroth Prize. In 2015, she was awarded the Zürcher Festspielpreis. Until 2021, Anna Viebrock held a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
