Sam Hopkins

In his artistic exploration, Sam Hopkins attempts to find possible answers to contemporary social and political issues. His works, which cannot be pinned down to one medium, are about exploring and rediscovering elements and structures of everyday life. Within participatory formats and projects in public space, he creates a multi-layered approach to ecological and economic issues in particular, linking his personal experiences from Nairobi with his current living environment in Germany. Hopkins, a 2017 Innogy Foundation for Energy and Society fellow, is creating a caravan installation for Urbane Künste Ruhr in which, based on living in trailer parks, the narrative of a parallel society unfolds via a radio play.

Sam Hopkins [*1979] lives in Cologne.

Die Dauercamperin

In the parking lot, next to the neoclassical building of the vacant Hoesch administration building, Hopkins stages a homage to Lena Bauer, a fictional character who lived her life in a camper van.
