Emscherkunstweg to expand in 2021

On an open space in the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord, the renowned artist Julius von Bismarck (*1983 in Breisach am Rhein), together with architect and artist Marta Dyachenko (*1990 in Kiev), has designed a miniature landscape for the Emscherkunstweg. The large-scale installation Neustadt consists of a total of 23 model-like sculptures of buildings that have been torn down in the Ruhr area since the 2000s. The buildings, including schools, swimming pools, residential buildings and churches, evoke memories and are at the same time testimonies to urban and social change. In the course of time, the model city is overgrown by bushes and shrubs, giving the relationship between nature and architecture a new weighting and bringing ecological issues into focus.
