Louis Henderson develops his cinematic narratives and installations in long research phases on location. He weaves together various real and fictional narratives in a cinematic way. For him, cinema is the source of inspiration and point of reference for many works. No wonder, then, that the British artist would like to show a film that is particularly important to him in his Wandersalon edition, instead of just presenting his own work.

At endstation.kino in Bochum-Langendreer we will show Handsworth Songs (1986, OV: English) by the Black Audio Film Collective - a film that combines many formal and content-related aspects that interest Louis Henderson. The documentary deals with the riots in Handsworth, Birmingham in the summer of 1985. Hundreds took to the streets in protest of institutional racism and high unemployment in the city – until the riots escalated. An experimental collage of image fragments and pop music, the film refuses to be read in any particular way, much as the causes of the protests were varied and complex.
Based on Handsworth Songs, the artist gives an insight into his own work.
