The theater is a place of transition. This is already inherent in the stage situation, which is constituted by constant appearances and departures. Is this the reason why theater is particularly suitable for a negotiation of the theme of flight? Jörn Etzold writes about this in Flucht, published as part of the series Kleiner Stimmungsatlas in individual volumes by Textem Verlag. Adnan Softić, himself a refugee fled from the former Yugoslavia to Germany decades ago, deals with another form of transition in his work: in his book A Better History and his film Bigger Than Life, he deals with the reconstruction of the inner city of the Macedonian capital Skopje. In kitschy, historicizing candy-coated style, it has been remodeled since 2014 into a place that rewrites the country's national history. Together with Maud Meyzaud, both discuss the moment of transition and staging in art in relation to national identity and territories. There will also be the opportunity to see Softic's film Bigger Than Life (Germany / Italy / Macedonia 2018) that evening.
