For Orsolya Kalász, the examination of language and the question of how it determines personal identity is a central theme. She writes her poems, which are rich in associations, in German and Hungarian — a language that very few people in the world know — and then translates them into the other language herself, often resulting in poetic variations. In this way, both languages stand side by side on an equal footing, instead of merely being translations of the other. In Essen, Kalász presented her poems in dialogue with the experimental music of Andy Vazul. The artistic format offers an exciting approach to the theme of the relationship between identity and territories, which Urbane Künste Ruhr is addressing in preparation for the Ruhr Ding.
