SYMBİOSİS (Metin Çelik und Deniz Aktaş)

Symbiosis is an art exhibition that brings together the works of Metin Çelik and Deniz Aktaş. The exhibition will be on display at Makroscope e.V. and the Museum für Fotokopie in Mülheim an der Ruhr from November 5th to 19th, 2022.

The word symbiosis, in its general definition, stands for the "coexistence" of two or more species in a mutually beneficial relationship centered on a shared life. This exhibition focuses on the practices of destruction and reconstruction in the context of human-nature relations, to develop new ideas and lead analogies to mutualism. The exhibition, which brings man's domination over nature and even his own species to the denominator of common life and the pragmatic structure of his own relations, brings together the productions of artists from different disciplines.

In the exhibition, Çelik deals with the transformation of man as an object in a new habitat created by him, as well as a new form of existence that he establishes with natural forms. Aktaş works deal with the theme of parasitic extinction in new natural landscapes created by destruction. In these depictions by both artists, the human figure underscores the stories of stone, earth, plants, land, or holistic topography in a broader perspective. The memory of violence brought about by destruction and the principles of a new life based on reciprocity form new symbiotic links in this exhibition.
